In a countermarch tie-up, the rising shafts are tied to the lower lam. For this, you use the short cords.
The shafts that do not rise are tied to the same treadle on the upper lam. For each treadle, as many cords are used as there are shafts in use.
In the drawing, the black dots represent the rising shafts, while the blue circles indicate the downward shaft movement. Be careful: if a shaft is connected to both the upper and lower lam on the same treadle, the system will block. You simply can't go up and down at the same time.
