David - Adding and moving heddles

Adding and moving heddles on the David loom is not difficult, but you need to keep a few things in mind. Namely, the shafts of the David can become unbalanced if all the heddles are on one side. When moving the heddles, make sure there are a few heddles on the right side of the shaft, the majority in the middle, and a few on the left of the center.

1. Block the shafts using the shaft blocker pin (see David – blocking pin).

2. Insert a knitting needle through the openings of all the shaft cords in the left Texsolv cord that runs to the upper left of the shaft bars (this prevents the cords you loosen from snapping upwards).

3. When moving heddles, slide the heddles you want to move to the left side of the shaft.

4. Attach 4 binding strips to prevent the heddles from becoming tangled.

5. Next, slide a free heddle close to the bundle of heddles you are going to move. This heddle helps keep the shaft balanced while removing the heddles.

6. Now you can unhook the upper shaft bar and slide the bundle of heddles off the upper shaft bar.
   Reattach the upper shaft bar.

7. Unhook the lower shaft bar from the cord that runs to the lamms and remove the bundle of heddles from the shaft.
   Reattach the lower shaft bar to the cord.

8. To add heddles, follow steps 6–9 to place the heddles on another shaft.
