This article applies to all IrT (Irish Tension) Louet wheels.
Spinning generates fiber dust and grit and when/if this dust and grit get into the flyer bearing, the friction of the rotating flyer rod can generate a squeak. The best solution is to clean the flyer bearing with a Q-tip and some rubbing alchohol. repeat until there is no black debris coming from inside the flyer bearing.
Sometimes, this grit can wear grooves into the flyer rod. Repeated doses of oil on the flyer shaft are absolutely not needed. The Nylon bobbin bearings and flyer bearings provide constant lubrication, so if you clean them and the flyer shaft surface, they will function without sound.
New wheels or wheels that have sat un-used for long periods, may need some”break in time”. Adding some oil or Vaseline in these cases, to overcome squeaking sounds is advised, but after use, please all surfaces to prevent wear.
If you have a groove in your flyer rod, the rod can be replaced with part # SR0133 and the office can be replaced with part #SR0123
