- Vertical adjustment:
To ensure that the reed strikes the fell line straight,, it is important to adjust the reed height accurately.
It is best to do this when there is a (not too narrow) warp on the loom and the cloth is over the breast beam.
First, adjust the height. This can be done by turning the screwed-in hinges on the bottom of the beater side vertical posts. Screw the hinge in to lower the beater and screw it out to raise the beater.
The height must be set in such a way that when the weaving shed is open, the lower threads just rest on the shuttle race.
It is important to adjust the height the same on both left and right sides. Measure this with a tape measure for accuracy.
Depth adjustment
If the height, left and right, are accurately and equally adjusted, the depth adjustment will usually be correct. However, if not, the spare parts set that comes with the loom contains a number of plastic strips with which you can adjust the depth of the beater. If you don't have plastic strips, you can also use thin cardboard. USe multiple strips if needed. In the video below Dave shows how you can fine-tune the depth position of the reed.
