With linen and other yarns that are not very elastic, it is sometimes a problem to get good tension on the lower half of the shed on the Jane-loom. Because the depth of the Jane is so great, the problem of loose lower warp threads can occur. These tips might help:
- Make sure that the lease sticks are removed from the warp, these shorten the active space of the threads.
- Advance the woven part as far forward as possible so that the reed still reaches the fell line squarely. This will also increase the length of the threads from breast to back beam. Advance the cloth frequently (after each 4 to 5 cm weaving).
- Increase the tension on the warp.
- Optionally, you can also increase the tension of the elastics. The elastics run from the shaft sides to the wheels at the bottom and pull the shafts down.
If you have a floor stand, you can try placing the warp beam in the floor stand. This can also help the issue.
