In theory, the slower the speed of the licker-in drum, the better the carding process will be for processing shorter fibers. In practice, the user will experience which ratio is best for certain fibers. For most fibers both ratio's will work well. For the Louet's Elite Carder - the slowest licker in speed is the higher ratio between the two drums, so the band is running over the pulley grooves that has the biggest seize difference.
