My friction brake is slipping, regardless of how much I tighten it

Your drum has become so smooth the cable doesn’t grip any longer. Use coarse sandpaper or a coarse file and rough it up.   That will allow you to get proper brake action again.   This applies to the David, Spring, Octado, Megado, Delta and Hollandia looms.
