There are many Megado dobby 1’s in the market and still working well. Some may have questions as to the need for the Dobby 2 and rational - here is some additional information
We found that OS’s - Mac, Windows etc are ever changing and a part of our products usage that we have no control over. A good example today is that current (2024) Mac OS’s ver 11,12,13 + do not function with out built in USB to serial driver.
Louet uses a very common commercially used driver - however, even this driver has not been able to solve the built in security features of the MAC OS
The Louet Dobby 2 is a built in system to drive your Megado. this allows users to design on their 3rd party software, save a WIF file and then load the WIF file on the Louet dobby 2 and use it to drive the loom and weave your pattern.
Things you should know:
-V1 and V2 dobby can still be used with ones old mac.
- older MAC computers work fine with our drivers - so if you are looking for a solution, finding an older version MAC computer is an option.
Diffirence on how the dobby V1 and dobby V2 attach to the Megado.
In 2014 we stopped using a magnet and magnetic sensors and started using metal detecting sensors. These sensors require that a piece of metal (the switch block) must pass by the sensor within 1mm.
Since the dobby system attached to the Megado with 2 bolt connections, on one each side of the dobby, the dobby was commonly NOT parallel to the loom itself. Thus was fine since the magnet which activated solenoids was strong and did not need to be close to the sensors.
However, the dobby’s using metal detecting sensors require the dobby to be perfectly parallel to the loom or risk having one sensor be within 1mm and one sensor greater than 1mm separation.
For this reason, we changed the Megado to add 2 more bolt connections making it 2 on each side and ensuring the switch block will pass both sensors within tolerance.
For older looms, we have an adjusting buffer on the bottom of the dobby to ensure parallel status.
BOTTOM LINE - both V1 and V2 dobby’s fit on ALL versions of the Megado loom.
Louet Dobby 2 has a remote upgrade capability - we can push an update to the software to override corrupted software or update to a new version with new features. All you need to do is connect your V2 dobby to the internet via your Ethernet to USB adapter provided and an Ethernet cable connected to your router. This technology will provide a very long lifecycle for your V2 dobby.
